Unpacking Lauryn's Law for School Counselors: Approaches to Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention:
This course is two full days and is in alignment with House Bill 0947.
Participants can earn either 1 MSDE CPD or 15 National Board Certified Contact Hours. MSCA is partnering with Bowie State University to provide this opportunity.
Frostburg State University
Frostburg State University is offering a one credit online course through edX edge that is designed for counselors to obtain recertification credit and satisfy MSDE requirement for training on Lauryn’s Law. The course does not require admission to Frostburg State University. However, you can transfer the SPOC credit into an existing program of study at Frostburg State University. The course has been approved by MSDE for one Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit.

Student Services Academy
This course meets the requirement for re-certification as a Professional School Counselor outlined in Lauryn’s Law. Participant will explore curriculum that will increase their knowledge and skills to understand and respond to the social, emotional, and personal development of students. Through this course, educators will explore indicators of mental illness and behavioral distress; including depression, trauma, violence, youth suicide, and substance abuse. Students will identify professional resources to help students in crisis. This course provides a current overview of supports and resources for distribution to parents or guardians, school staff, and students, as needed.
